Finally finished putting together my Truppenfahrrad, as the replacement brake guides turned up.

-- attachment is not available --

Eagle eyed viewers will notice that the front tyre is flat. I managed about 200 yards on its test run before the valve went, I thought they looked corroded.

So, that means two new inner tubes and taking those bl**dy rod brakes to bits again to get the wheels off. Oh well, it is nice and shiny.

Cheers
Martin

If the brake guides are slots, rather than holes for the brake spiggots to locate into, then the brake blocks (complete with the brake stirrup) can be pushed/'pinged' out and allowed to spread apart.

Taking the sander to my k98 stock as it went patchy when I applied the stain. I think they used some sort of filler in the factory

they apply a waxy undercoat under the stain , you just have to re sand it in those areas or the stain wont soak in .

Yeah that seems to be the problem, I think if I dampen the wood slightly when I think I'm done it'll only darken where the undercoat has been properly removed. Hopefully this'll be the last time I do it! :)
I might take pics and do a complete start to finish guide on the conversion as the ones online seem to be rather fragmented or incomplete.

Getting that waxy stuff off is awful, there always seems to be one last bit you've missed. I just got mine to 'good enough'. Good luck!

Seem to have gotten it all off. There were some big knots and dings in the woodwork but they should actually look pretty good once its stained. Just struggling with how best to fit the vsr parts into the dboys stock now and what metalwork I can keep.

Shattered a few cutting discs and found my cordless dremel really doesn't have the torque to cut metalwork. Managed to wrench my shoulder moving a workbench too! :slap:

Hi Gareth, what is this? Some secret weapon training? L

Miniature wargaming, Kameraden. I'm building up a Japanese Army to tournament standard, so taking a lot of time. That and selling more figures to fund airsoft!

Yes, many of us are also wargamers. Bolt Action are a set of war games rules. There are some wargaming threads in the off topic section.

Anyhow, today I finally got the Truppenfahrrad working properly, fixed the front valve, straightened the wheels and did the final brake adjustments and actually managed to ride it without mishap. Now need to think about painting it!

I also repaired my gas mask tin, only blunted one drill in the process, and did some weathering on some belt buckles (black wash) and replaced a few studs in my ammo boots.

Cheers
Martin

Reworked the vsr barrel and marked up all the parts for cutting on the k98 barrel and the hop unit.

Replaced the missing toe plate screws in my ammo boots, put bigger screws in the butt plate of my K98 (as it kept falling off during rifle drill!) and slapped a load of dubbin on the sling as it looked a bit dry in places.

I also ran 13 miles and up 2000 feet, Eyam half marathon in a few weeks, quite a hilly one out in the peaks.

Cheers

You are probably the only one of us fit enough to be a Gebirgs, next time I expect you to be in full kit and have photo's to prove it

Visited the Royal Observatory and Planetarium. Absolutely superb.

Had a wander round the Maritime Museum, took the Missus to where we first met, the Cutty Sark, came home, thinking my romantic gesture had earned possible substantial brownie points, then developed a fucking migraine and was reduced to a puddle of pish for the next four hours.

Two weeks off though, so not all bad.

Did a proper clear out of my workshop space and attempted (not very successfully) to organize all of my airsoft gear into the appropriate bags and carriers. I definitely need a few more barracks bags and crates though and I may put the rigger extension onto my griswold bag to allow my Garand to fit without taking it down into two pieces.
